Garnett-Paul Thompson Spears was born on December 3, 2008, to Lacey Spears and Chris Hill.
Chris was not present in Garnett’s upbringing because Lacey had told her son that his father was a police officer named Blake who had died in a car accident.
She also lied to Garnett’s biological father, that Garnett wasn’t his son, and threatened him to stay away from both her and the child.
She took Garnett from Alabama where he was born to Florida to live with her maternal grandmother, Peggy. Eventually, she settled with her son in Chestnut Ridge, New York.
Lacey Spears claimed her son was born with a rare genetic disorder called ‘Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone’ (SIADH). He was in and out of the hospital for the first nine weeks of his life.
In 2009, Lacey took to Twitter to express her distress over her son’s health. She frequently referred to him as ‘Garnett the Great,’ and shared updates on his condition.
One tweet read: ‘Hoping Garnett Doesn’t Have To Be Put In The Hospital.’
Just two days later, she posted again: ‘My Sweet Angel Is In The Hospital For The 23rd Time.’
