Henry Chau Hoi-leung was born on June 7, 1983, as the youngest child of Glory Chau Wing-ki and Moon Siu Yuet-yee. He had an older brother, Chau Hoi-ying. The family of four lived together, and it’s believed that Henry’s childhood and general upbringing were largely normal and uneventful.

His parents, Glory and Moon, had been married for a long time, and although they weren’t wealthy, they did everything they could to provide for their two boys.

This included private education, and also private piano lessons for Henry. For many Asian families, including Henry’s, the significance of a good education and academic success is of utmost importance.

According to his friends, Henry harbored resentment toward his parents for forcing him to learn piano during elementary school.

In secondary school, he struggled academically and had trouble fitting in with his classmates. Henry eventually failed the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination.

As a result, Henry was sent to study actuarial mathematics in Australia. During his time there, he was subjected to significant bullying and harassment. He dropped out of the course in 2003 at the age of 20.
