In December 2022, Independence, Kentucky was rocked by a gruesome discovery. Inside an apartment at 4653 Beechgrove Drive, police found the lifeless body of 32-year-old Amberly Harris.
This wasn’t just another tragic domestic dispute gone wrong. The circumstances surrounding Amberly’s death were far more sinister and calculated than anyone could have imagined.
Just weeks before Amberly’s demise, a seemingly innocuous insurance policy was taken out in her name.
This policy was specifically for ‘accidental death and dismemberment’, worth $20,000. The beneficiary was none other than Amberly’s live-in boyfriend, 55-year-old Tommy Joe Powell.
On December 15th, 2022, Amberly Harris’ concerned employer requested a welfare check after she failed to show up for work.
As officers approached the apartment, they had no idea of the horror that awaited them inside. When they knocked on the door, it was Powell who answered.
Without hesitation, he told the officers, “Amberly is dead. I shot her.”
The police swiftly entered the apartment, and the full extent of the grisly scene became apparent. There, sprawled on the floor of the bedroom, lay Amberly’s corpse.
